Tomten Fever

February 14, 2008

I started to knit an adult Tomten. I think it is Jared’s fault that I got infected by the Elizabeth Zimmermann fever. I also have to make some adjustments – first of all because of the yarn. I didn’t like the look of my variegated yarn over the whole body. I first tried to knit the body in one pieces with four balls of yarn. But I soon decided that it wasn’t worth the pain. After all, I don’t mind seeming. So I knit the body in four pieces. I also decided to shape the body with some waist decreases. Having actually read Jared’s post on his Tomten, I think I will copy some of his modifications like the smaller neck size (for children, it can’t be wide enough). I have to admit I didn’t get everything of his armhole modifications.

And I finished some socks for my son. He was thrilled to have socks in the same color as me (see the Cheshire Cat Socks).

Selbu Mittens

February 3, 2008

I think I knitted these back in autum 2005. I did 3 pairs in the end, all because I knitted two left hands in the first place. They were a gift – and my other friend got twins! I took the picture from the twins ones when I visited them last weekend. They appear to like them – the “zwieback” sticks on it and they are the only mittens which they manage to eat with.
