Waited for this

October 16, 2009

Today Laila brought me the book I “ordered” from her visit to Denmark. Hönsefödder & Gulerödder from Anette Danielsen. And it is so great the website looks like. Some models I like to have for myself – did anybody tried that yet?

Thanks Laila!

Knit in Public 2009

June 14, 2009

That was yesterday. Didn’t see any knitters in town, but I was at the Zoo with my daughter and knitted while she was eating a huge ice cream. Really a huge one, so I managed a few rounds at my socks…

But then I am not so into knitting, it is getting too warm, but the main reason is that I am totally hooked with my wheel. And the fiber…

Treasures ans Wishes

May 16, 2009

Yesterday evening I got this beautiful swift from Laila.

I tried it today and it works like a charm. Thanks again! But not only I got the swift, she really helped me to get started with a new knitting project by suggesting patterns for the beautiful yarn I got from her to my birthday. So I started February Lady Sweater.

In the course of the evening she also demonstrated her ball winder – and I was fascinated and said: I want one. I really want one. I am going to buy one. And today we went into town, to the local fleamarket and look what I got:

Beautiful, isn’t it? Together with this old ball winder I got this – the seller didn’t know what it is for – but I think it is to put a ball on it and keep it from rolling around. It’s name is “Lismeli” (the little knitter), at least that is printed on the bottom.

What can be more perfect after a nice and comfy evening? Oh yes, there’s more – I got something like a studio! Update follows.

Permanent?

March 21, 2009

Do you know the feeling after finishing a big project (aka sweater)? When you are pleased wearing your new knitwear and at the same time long to start a new project. If only you knew exactly which one…

So instead I decide to blog. About the dyeing yarn. Together with the kids I dyed some old superwash yarn. With Kool-Aid.

Orange and Cherries

And knitted mittens for the kids.

Now, Boy was so fond of his half-mitts, that he wore them all the time. They needed a wash. Superwash – so I put them in the washing machine. And that’s the result.

On the left one mitten of Girl, never washed. I read several times that Kool-Aid is permanent – but look at the difference. (And I didn’t use any bleach!)

Experiences?

The Cost of Babysitting

February 2, 2009

Finally I completed one depth and generated new ones, but on the other side. I have a good friend who volunteered (more or less) babysitting for the business christmas dinner. More or less because I kind of had to talk her into it (I’m sure in the afterthought she doesn’t understand why, the kids were most peaceful. And seriously telling about 3 bedside stories isn’t that bad, is it?) so I promised to knit her something. And because babysitting really is a kind task to the stressed parents, what could have suited better than Humanity?

And here they are the second FO in 2009!

Summing Up

January 27, 2009

I totally agree with SlippedStich (at least I think to remember that I read sth like that in one of her posts) – Ravelry has an impact on blogging. I admit I find it intriguing to keep up with project on the net. Specially as I never managed a handwritten notebook. (I know). But dividing the time between family, my day job, knitting/spinning, sports AND the internet (blogging, ravelry) is not easy.

In short – the job won and blogging lost.

But even if I was quite buried in work end of year (even during christmas holidays – sad) I managed to get some project finished in november, december. And I did some spinning, not nearly as muched as I hoped and some dyeing. More about that later.

During my stay in Hamburg I finished Branching out (started in June – Mohair just isn’t the right material for summertime).

And I knitted the first of the Noro mitered mittens (gift).

I actually knit another one, in a different colorway – but can you believe it, I gave them away without taking a picture!

And then another helgi for my beloved man:

And the longest project of last year – because it was crocheting? I finally finished the Boho Blocks Sweater for my little girl. Just in time

After thinking a bit – I think it wasn’t the crocheting (which actually is great for playground projects), but the sewing together!

fiber stuff to be followed.

Finished and More

November 1, 2008

I finished my first object from my own hand spun yarn! That’s something. I chose Calorimetry from knitty.com, first because it’s a perfect object for little yarn, second to manage my growing hair! And since I wear it quite a lot I probably knit some more.

I really like the yarn (and the color), I first was afraid that it would be too hard, because of being overspun, but it turns out it was totally ok to knit. I should know because I knit it twice – the first try was why toooo big (and I swatched ladies, my gauge was smaller, so I figured that using the same stitch number would be ok, but still, had to reknit it with 25% stitches less). Anyway, it’s finished and practically stays on my head.

ravelled

At the same time I try to manage the twist amount and use the cheap multicolor bats to exercise spinning fingering weight singles. And did I tell that I get some help from my oldest. That usually works that way, that he treadles and I draft. Not too bad – he treadles quite slow which is good for the twist. So far I have spun four skeins (about 65g) each. Oldest whishes a hat from the yarn, we will see…

And from time to time I am still knitting on the second edition of helgi’s mittens – this time with a heavier yarn and darker colors. It’s getting cold outside…

Sanity

May 22, 2008

This piece of knitting kept me from getting insane this week, from the terrible workload (giving courses and conference talks…)
I managed to finish the last six ridges (including the button holes) yesterday evening and I am still overwhelmed by the genius of this pattern. I can’t find another word for it. Of course most of you already guessed what I am talking about. EZ famous Baby Surprise Jacket (BSJ).

BSJ

It’s made from Opal Sock wool, worked double stranded with neede Nr 5; more details see on ravelry. Now let’s weave the shoulders.

Tomten update

May 2, 2008

I finished the knitting. Good that I didn’t make it the original length – I just had enough wool. Remaining tasks: Blocking and finding the appropriate buttons. And make the afterthought buttonholes.

Im glad that I finally knitted this. I really like improvising but it adds up to total knitting sum…
